IMDA Yearbook 2011 - Driving Innovation Through Collaboration

A warm welcome to the Irish Medical Devices Association’s 2011 Yearbook.

Throughout 2011, medtech in Ireland remained a bastion of strength compared to other industry sectors and in weathering the global economic downturn, we have become more productive and competitive. Our industry will undoubtedly be a key driver of Ireland’s export-led growth in coming years, but the future is not without its challenges. Crucially, global healthcare expenditure is coming under mounting strain. The industry in Ireland is under ever-increasing pressure to build on its reputation for producing high-end, clinically superior products and solutions that add proven economic value.

We made positive progress on all of our priorities in 2011 and in this report (see attached) we provide you with a snapshot of our work on key activities including operational excellence, convergence, marketing, regulation and skills development. We also give an insight into how we have been collaborating with Government departments, development agencies, the clinical community and regulators as we all work together towards an ever-stronger ecosystem for our companies to grow and develop.

We look forward to working with all our members, our partners and our allied organisations throughout the coming year towards the creation of a dynamic and exciting future for medtech in Ireland. As always, the IMDA stands ready to help you as you navigate your way forward.
