Lake Region Medical Limited (LRM), a Wexford-based Medical Device company has become the first company in the Republic of Ireland, and the first Medical Device manufacturer in Europe to be awarded a global standard in Operational Excellence - the prestigious Shingo Accreditation Bronze Medallion.
The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence is part of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University. The mission of The Shingo Prize is to create excellence in organizations through the application of universally accepted principles of operational excellence and to empower people and transform organizational culture.

LRM employ 750 people at their plant in New Ross Co. Wexford and another 100 at their International Research & Development Centre in Galway.
The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence has been described by Business Week magazine as the Nobel Prize for Manufacturing. Lake Region Medical has now become the first company in Ireland & the first Medical Device manufacturer in Europe to achieve Shingo Accreditation.

The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence is a not-for-profit organization housed at Utah State University and named after Japanese industrial engineer Shigeo Shingo. Dr. Shingo distinguished himself as one of the world’s thought leaders in concepts, management systems and improvement techniques that have become known as the Toyota Business System. Dr. Shingo received his honorary Doctorate of Management from Utah State University in 1988, the year the prize was initiated.
