Significant opportunities are being created as a result of growing outsourcing trends in the Med Tech sector. Previously limited to areas such as packaging, sterilization and logistics, outsourcing now extends to high-end activities that include product design. Multinationals are recognising that substantial cost savings can be achieved and time-to-market for new products significantly reduced by using carefully selected outsource partners.
One Galway-based Company is a beneficiary of this trend. Located in the Galway Technology Centre, Outsource Technical Concepts Ltd. was founded by Denis Healy in 2004 and today employs teams of highly-qualified design engineering specialists who may be located either at the home base or embedded in the customers own design centres.
From initially providing production support in areas such as fixture and gauge design, the business has evolved into a full-service outsource partner covering the complete spectrum of activity from initial product design through to physical realization. This involves management and control of all interim stages, including design verification, tool, gauge and fixture design and procurement, process validation, calibration and CE marking.
Says Healy, 'The model is being increasingly adopted by many of the major med tech manufacturers as time-to-market and cost reduction pressures increase'.
From the Galway location, Outsource Technical Concepts Ltd. extends its service model to customers throughout Ireland and the U.K. and shortly plans to establish a full-time presence in the U.S.A. in response to customer demands.
