Minister of Trade and Development, Jan O’Sullivan TD, officiated at the opening of the new Research, Development and Manufacturing facility for the Biotrin Group in Dublin on Tuesday 27 September 2011. The Biotrin Group is owned by the Italian diagnostics company, DiaSorin S.p.A.
The Biotrin Group, a leading developer and manufacturer of diagnostic platform technology, announced a new R&D project in June 2010to develop a Molecular diagnostic platform technology and assay reagents for the detection of DNA in infectious disease and Oncology. The new facility will allow the continuation of the R&D activity and the expansion of the manufacturing capability. The project is expected to create up to 40 high-value positions over the next few years bringing the total number employed at the facility to over 100.
Speaking at the official opening the Minister said, “I am delighted to officially open the Biotrin Group’s Research Development & and Manufacturing facility in Dublin today. The establishment of the facility is a further endorsement of Ireland as a prime location for leading lifesciences investments.”
DiaSorin CEO, Dr. Carlo Rosa said that, “the investment is highly significant for the Biotrin Group in that it establishes the Biotrin site in Dublin as DiaSorin’s corporate headquarters for Molecular Diagnostics Research, Development & Manufacturing. Ireland’s strong reputation as an RD&I location as well as the success of the Biotrin Group’s existing operation is central to the decision to locate the new facility in Dublin.”
Welcoming the opening, Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said, “The Biotrin Group’s new facility reinforces Ireland’s position as a global hub for the life sciences sector. IDA Ireland wishes Biotrin and its management and staff every success and offers its continuous support to the Biotrin Group as it expands its operation in Ireland.”
