Medtech Week 2015

Medical devices associations across Europe are hosting the first ever Medtech Week, 15-21 June. This is a week-long programme of events and activities across Europe to raise awareness of the sector which employs 575,000 people, working in 25,000 companies. The industry has a market size of roughly €100 billion and 4% growth per annum, but medtech week is about much more than this, it’s a chance to provide an ‘insider view’ on what the sector does, with events organised by companies and national associations who produce the technology.

In Ireland, the medical technology sector is recognised as one of the five global emerging hubs. As many as 18 of the world’s top 25 medical technology companies have a base in Ireland with 350 companies located here, half of which are indigenous. It employs over 27,000 people across the country.

Ireland is also one of the largest exporters of medical products in Europe with annual exports worth €8 billion going to over 100 countries worldwide. However the industry is undervalued and even misunderstood by key groups.

IMDA are working with Today FM on a radio campaign to promote the value of the medical technology to be aired during the Last Word with Matt Cooper. Tune in weeknights from 4.30pm-7.30pm during Medtech Week to find out more.
