In late 2013, IMDA made a submission to the Department of Education and Skills on the review of the National Apprenticeships Model for Ireland. IMDA’s submission recommended expanding the existing infrastructure to support industry-relevant apprenticeship programmes while broadening the scope of traditional apprenticeships to include medtech and other growth sectors, thus creating an identifiable national career-path model. A dual-level manufacturing apprenticeship was a fundamental component of this submission, along with the creation of a ‘Centre of Manufacturing Excellence’ to support this model. Attached is a copy of the submission.
In March 2015, IMDA made a proposal to the Department of Education and Skills on two proposed apprenticeships:
1. a three year Manufacturing Technician at NQF Level 6; and
2. a two year Manufacturing Engineer at NQF Level 7.
IMDA await for approval on these two submissions.
